growing gardeners workshops
The Growing Gardeners Workshop Series is a collaboration between City Sprouts and The Big Garden. We work together to offer four seasons of hands-on workshops that feature skills and techniques for every gardener and urban farmer: growing, cooking, preserving and eating healthy local food. All workshops are free and open to all ages.
Our workshops are broken up into three main tracks: Urban Ag School, Herbal Medicine Cabinet, and Culinary Workshops. We also have smaller workshops attached to various community events that we have throughout the year. Check out all of our workshop offerings on our Growing Gardeners website.
We love having guest teachers from our community lead workshops! Are you knowledgable about a subject that you'd like to share in a workshop? Reach out to our Education Manager and explain what skills you'd like to share.

Volunteer at City Sprouts!
Did you know one volunteer hour is equivalent to $28.54? That's what the experts say but, to us, volunteer time is priceless. City Sprouts has the privilege of hosting more than 300 volunteers every year. From garden clean up, to mini construction projects, to events and beyond - your time is invaluable and we appreciate you. No experience necessary. Tools and gloves will be provided if needed.
Individual Volunteering
City Sprouts hosts plentiful volunteer opportunities throughout the year. Whether you need to fulfill service hour requirements or just want to get more involved in the community, we're happy to have you! Check out upcoming opportunities with the button below:
Group Volunteering
Come one, come all - we are thrilled to host groups of various sizes!
City Sprouts aims to bring the community together with one of our favorite things - food. Cultivating, growing, and maintaining takes a lot of work and we are honored to have amazing volunteers step up to the plate to help. Take a look at types of groups we've hosted before:
-
Clubs
-
Corporate Teams
-
Schools/Classes
-
Scout Troops (for badges/experience)
-
Youth Groups
Contact North Programs Manager / volunteer coordinator Shannon Kyler for more information and inquiries.
Garden Crew
Have you heard of the City Sprouts Garden Crew? In 2022, we changed from individual plots to a communal u-pick style garden. The Garden Crew helps plant and maintain the North Community Garden on 4002 Seward Street, operating primarily from March through October.
Stay tuned - in February we'll be posting more about the Garden Crew on our website and social media (@omahasprouts) for opportunities to get involved!
Oh, and an added bonus? The Garden Crew has monthly socials in the warmer months with pizza made in the City Sprouts cob oven and potluck-style gatherings. (FREE and open to the public!)
